Learn a little about the fascinating world of gourds and create a beautiful vase which makes the perfect Mother's Day or birthday gift. Whether you keep it or gift it away, it will certainly be a treasured work of art! In this class, we will discuss the history and variety of gourds, growing and processing, their many uses, and how to properly care for your gourd. Then it's time for the hands-on experience where you unleash your creativity! You will receive a gourd that has been cut and cleaned. You will use sandpaper to clean up any rough edges. Then it’s time to stain/paint and decorate your vase either using stencils available or your own creative and artistic ability! All supplies needed to create your gourd vase will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring an apron or wear clothing suitable for staining/painting. A variety of paint, colored markers, and stain will be available. Note: Completed vases are intended for dried, silk , or wooden flowers but can be used for fresh flowers if placed in an appropriate vessel or if the gourd is properly treated to hold water. Instructions will be provided on how to moisture treat your gourd. Flowers are not included. Gourds vary in size, shape, texture, color; and final products are subject to participants creativity and skill. Minimum 5 people - Maximum 15.
